The Harbin bureau of China Railway imported a total of 3.59 million tons of coal from Russia in the first eight months of 2018, representing a year-on-year increase of 76.5 percent.

The imported coal will be used to cover shortages experienced each winter when central heating systems are switched on across Heilongjiang.

Most coal imports enter China through Manzhouli Railway Station and Suifenhe Railway Station.

As of Aug 31, Manzhouli Railway Station had handled 33,815 coal trains and 2.37 million tons of coal; and Suifenhe Railway Station had imported 381,700 tons of coal.

Coal will continue to be imported via the province’s ports as temperatures fall during autumn.
