The River North branch of the Harbin JW Marriott Hotel joined millions around the world in turning off its lights on March 30 at 8:30 pm for Earth Day 2019 to shine a light on the importance of environmental protection.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) started the annual global event 12 years ago to bring attention to climate change.

The Harbin hotel hosted a series of related activities that day, including turning off the lights on its exterior signs, dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting, and using candles in public areas.

“Every year, we observe Earth Hour and are reminded of how important it is to bringing awareness to the pressing issue of climate change,” said Denise Naguib, vice president of sustainability and supplier diversity at the Harbin JW Marriott Hotel.

“We have a responsibility and an opportunity to share this message with our millions of guests and associates by observing Earth Hour tonight and continuing to focus on our sustainability and social impact platforms.”
