The 2013 China Heilongjiang-African Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference opened on June 13, at the Harbin International Convention Center in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province and concluded on June 16.

Ten African ambassadors to China and also representatives from African companies attended the launch of the event, to support increased economic and trade cooperation between Heilongjiang and African countries.

The trade volume between African countries and Heilongjiang last year exceeded $2 billion, equal to the total value of transactions between the province and the United States during the same period.

A total of 15 projects in 11 different African countries are receiving investment totaling $36.88 million from Heilongjiang companies. These projects involve mining, motorcycle manufacturing, and furniture manufacturing.

As a major agriculture province, Heilongjiang exports its agricultural techniques to help increase grain yield in Africa and to assist a region with a large population of underfed people.

Chi Jianxin, president of the China-Africa Development Fund and Yang Aiwu, the organization’s vice-president, participated in the event.
