Jinhewan Wetland Park is located on the north bank of the Songhua River. It is 3,800 meters long from east to west, with the widest distance reaching 1,500 meters.

It covers an area of 1.8 square kilometers. There are six main scenic spots: one island (Ruyi Island), two sandy beaches (Golden Sandy Beach and Silver Sandy Beach), three hillocks (Mulberry Hillock, Malus Baccata Hillock and Large-Fruited Chinese Hawthorn Hillock), four gardens (Hundred Plants Garden, Hundred Flowers Garden, Hundred Fruits Garden and Hundred Styles Garden), five pools (five small-linked pools) and six sandbars (Egret Sandbar, Gull Sandbar, Wild Duck Sandbar, Mandarin Duck Sandbar, Wild Goose Sandbar and Swan Sandbar). Gulls and wild ducks often cluster and perch on the six sandbars. Pheasants often run out from the flowering shrubs. Jinhewan is a demonstration site for aquatic ecosystem-conservation and restoration, seeking to provide "environmental protection, closeness to nature and health" as a starting point in the effort to restore the wetland’s original look.
