The food and drug administration of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, has introduced a food safety tracking system to improve food safety management and ensure public health in 2014.
The system helps identify all food safety-related information, including original producers and ingredient suppliers, processing, storage and sales information.
Once problematic food is found, its sources can be immediately traced from the information database of the tracking system. This allows the recall procedures to be worked out smoothly.
According to Tong Baogang, director of the drug and food administration of Harbin, people can check the origin and ingredients of food, as well as watch live video about the cooking procedures in its kitchens at the front desks of A-level catering enterprises in Harbin.
Supermarkets, shopping centers and other food-product operators have installed the tracking systems for consumers to check food information for products they want to purchase.
