The Harbin Linkong Economic Zone is located about 30 kilometers southwest of the downtown of Harbin -- the capital city of Heilongjiang, China’s northernmost province -- and neighboring Harbin Taiping International Airport.

It is aiming to become an international aviation hub of Northeast China, a national demonstration zone for economic opening-up and international commerce, a leading industrial cluster of Northeast China -- and a provincial-level innovation pilot zone for institutions.

It has a planned area of 170 square kilometers and zone officials say it is making every effort to form a development pattern called “one core and six parts”. This refers to the aviation hub area as the core and six industrial parks involving aviation logistics, aviation manufacturing, the digital economy industry, aviation maintenance, aviation food and aviation services.

In 2020, Harbin Linkong Economic Zone will start the construction of the Eurasian Data Trade Port, an aviation logistics park, an aviation manufacturing park and a digital economy industrial park. They will cover an estimated total area of 2 million sq m.

According to the Harbin International Aviation Hub Strategic Plan, in 2035, Harbin will be connected to around 110 domestic and international cities -- covering Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe and North America -- with an annual handling capacity of around 80 million passengers and 12 million tons of cargo. The Harbin aviation hub is projected to generate annual revenue of 80 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, complete highways, high-speed railways and rail transit will form the backbone of the ground transportation network, enabling passengers to travel in the Harbin-Changchun megalopolis via road and rail within 2 hours.

The planning scope of the Harbin-Changzhou megalopolis includes Harbin, Daqing, Qiqihar, Suihua and Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang province -- as well as Changchun, Jilin, Siping, Liaoyuan, Songyuan and Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin province.
