A total of 800 tons of frozen pork produced by Wangkui Shuanghui, Great Northern Wilderness Food Co and Baoquanling Shuanghui Food Co were shipped in Dayao Bay in Dalian Port on Oct 12. The pork is expected to arrive at St Petersburg in Russia in 45 days.
"Ten years ago, Heilongjiang province was a major province in China exporting raw pork to Russia, but Russia banned Chinese pork products in 2004," according to an official from the Heilongjiang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
Efforts by China to re-open the Russian market were fruitless until the Sino-Russia Expo in Harbin this June, Russia decided to send its experts to Heilongjiang province for pork import issues as the country banned the import of meat and egg products from Western countries.
Russia has recently arranged a delegation to import pork from Heilongjiang province. Altogether nine pork processing enterprises, including two companies from Shuangcheng district and Hulan district in Harbin, have a chance to enter the Russian market with their pork products.
