An anti-terrorism drill was held to test the police emergency response and strengthen security prior to the National Day holiday in Harbin, capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang province on Sept 25, 2014.

More than 1500 people participated in the drill and several situations were simulated in the field, including a vehicle attack, an explosive attack, a hostage situation and an arson attack in public squares.

As has been noted from the recent terrorist attacks in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province and in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, both civilian and public facilities have been frequently targeted. In order to tackle possible upgraded terrorist threats and attacks, Harbin has organized many anti-terrorism drills to improve the response and enforcement of the city’s anti-terrorism police force.

Earlier in June, an anti-terrorism drill was jointly held by the Subway Division of Harbin Police Department and Harbin Metro to test the capabilities of policemen and subway security staff in dealing with emergencies and terrorist attacks at subway stations.

A variety of new anti-terrorism police equipment enhanced with advanced technologies appeared at the drill, such as a 6×6 amphibious armored vehicle that can crush light vehicles and cross water with its tires in hunting down the terrorists.
