Harbin -- capital city of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province -- will implement 17 shanty town renovation projects this year, which is expected to benefit more than 12,400 households.

To date, housing expropriation in seven to-be-renovated shanty town projects has started, involving 4,488 households. Expropriation for another three projects in the Daowai and Xiangfang districts will soon begin.

Additionally, 5,000 houses will be built for relocated residents who once lived in the shanty towns in Donghuagong Road and Beishu in Daowai district, as well as in Chenggaozi in Xiangfang district.

Marking progress for Harbin’s shanty town renovation program, residents relocating to Mingjue Mansion community moved to their new homes on June 15.
