Harbin Electric Machinery Co was established in June 1951 and transformed into a joint-stock company in October 1994.

It is one of China’s key firms producing large and medium-sized power generation equipment, including water, steam, and wind-driven generators, control systems for power plants, and sliding bearings.

The company covers a construction area of 330,000 square meters and a floor area of 720,000 square meters. It boasts about 3,800 pieces of heavy machinery , as well as several processing or development bases, including Qinhuangdao Nuclear Power Station and a wind power base in Zhenjiang.

The production  amount of its large water-driven generators  accounts for 50 percent of national total production,  and the steam-driven generators account for about one third of the total.

The company cooperates with more than 30 companies in 12 countries -  including General Electric, or GE (US), Alstom (France), Asea Brown Boveri, orABB ( (Switzerland), Siemens (Germany) and Hitachi (Japan) - and sells its products to 34 countries including the US, Canada, Japan, India, Brazil and Russia.

In the past 60 years, Harbin Electric Machinery Co has introduced many new technologies, to China’s generator manufacturing sector.
