Harbin industry and information technology bureau held a work conference in the capital of China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province on April 24, to introduce the city’s industry work tasks and goals in 2020, according to local officials.

They said that given the current general novel coronavirus situation, Harbin will attach great importance to boosting the development of its key companies, developing leading businesses and supporting the return to work and production of some major enterprises, while implementing strict virus prevention and control measures.

Information from the conference revealed that Harbin will start putting together its Harbin Strong Industrial City Construction Plan (2021-2025) this year and continue to build a “4 + 4" modern industrial system -- which refers to an industrial system comprising of Harbin’s four pillar industries and four of its most competitive and dynamic industries.

It will also push forward the implementation of a three-year action plan for the city’s advanced equipment manufacturing and information industries.

Meanwhile, Harbin will ensure the development of a number of billion yuan-level and 10 billion yuan-level enterprises through its planned technological transformation and industrial support.

Officials said it is expected to promote 14 industries including deep graphite processing, robots and intelligent equipment, abattoirs and meat processing in order to grow its economy significantly.

In addition, priorities will also be given to the construction of 5G networks.

A total of 7,000 5G base stations covering Harbin’s nine urban districts and counties will be built in the current year, improving 5G network coverage in key areas.
