Leading Chinese power equipment producer Harbin Electric Corporation announced on July 20 that the No 1 unit of the Dubai Hassyan 4×600 megawatt clean coal power station -- designed and manufactured by the company -- successfully achieved dual-fuel full-load power generation the previous day at 19:28 Dubai local time.
A spokesman for Harbin Electric, based in Harbin city in China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province, said its Hassyan power plant project in Dubai is the first dual-fuel power plant in the world.
The plant consists of four cutting-edge generators with a total installed capacity of 2,400 megawatts, capable of completely burning coal or natural gas for backup fuel.
Harbin Electric said the design meets the demand for different fuels and improves the adaptability of power plants.
The company said that all four units will start commercial operations in 2023.
When fully operating, the plant will not only provide 20 percent of the power energy for Dubai, but also greatly reduce the cost of electricity for local residents. It will also provide guaranteed power for the upcoming Dubai World Expo.
Harbin has made major progress in improving its environment.
The financial departments recently allocated another 320 million yuan to support companies that are resuming their operations and production.
Policies rolled out by Harbin -- in response to the needs of enterprises that are resuming operations and production -- have taken effect.
Harbin FTZ recently rolled out initiatives to simplify registering and starting up companies.
