Harbin contributes to national food security

Harbin, the capital city of China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province, has yielded results in developing its grain and oil brands and guaranteeing national food security.

In 2020, Harbin completed high-quality grain projects, with its six districts, counties and county-level cities being included on the “China Good Grain and Oil Demonstration Counties” list.

The same year, 19 enterprises from Harbin city received financial support from the central government. Also, authorities provided 45,557 sets of scientific grain storage equipment for farmers and put 16 grain post-production service centers into use.

Meanwhile, Harbin established 13 grain quality and safety monitoring system projects.

All of the 43 enterprises and 77 products from Harbin city were selected for the 2020 "Heilongjiang Good Grain and Oil Products” list, ranking first in Heilongjiang province.

Harbin, known as “the capital city of China’s high-quality rice” by the China National Grain Sector Association, boasts one of the world’s three black-soil areas that are suitable for rice planting.

Thanks to the fertile soil, abundant sunshine and rain, Harbin has developed unique rice brands known across China.

In 2020, the brand value of Harbin’s Wuchang Rice reached 69.86 billion yuan ($10.48 billion), while the brand value of Fangzheng Selenium-rich Rice reached 11.86 billion yuan.

Also, the Tonghe Rice brand value reached 8.85 billion yuan, and Yanshou Rice Brand value reached 6.04 billion yuan.

Yanshou county also won the "2020 Heilongjiang Provincial Brand Value Evaluation Geographical Indication Brand Award."
