Harbin enterprise plants rice on building roof

An enterprise from Harbin, capital city of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province, has learned how to plant rice on building roofs.
In May of this year, using its own waterproof engineering technology and ecological agricultural technology, Meilixin Group based in the city's Nan'gang district built a roof paddy field covering 5,250 square meters.
Currently, the rice is growing healthily and is expected to be harvested in November.

"Since rice is grown on the office building, not only can you enjoy the idyllic scenery on the roof, but the indoor temperature in summer is maintained at 24 to 25 degrees," said an employee of Meilixin Group.
"It is much cooler than in previous years and there is no need to turn on the air conditioner," the employee added.
