Advanced CR400BF-GZ Fuxing intelligent electric multiple rail units, or EMUs - the most freeze-resistant and intelligent member of the Fuxing EMU rail family - will serve China's northernmost Heilongjiang province during the Spring Festival travel rush for the first time.

Electrical multiple-unit trains - increasingly popular with commuters worldwide - consist of self-propelled carriages using electricity as the motive power. EMUs require no separate locomotive, as electric traction motors are incorporated within one or a number of the carriages. 

According to information from the China Railway Harbin Bureau, two sets of brand-new Fuxing high-cold intelligent EMUs - comprising 16 carriages in total - will run on the high-speed railways connecting Heilongjiang's capital city of Harbin to Qiqihar, Mudanjiang and Jiamusi cities in the province after a series of tests and no-load trials.

Heilongjiang is reportedly the area in the country with the highest latitude and the coldest temperature, where a Fuxing EMU can reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. 

Compared with the standard version of the Fuxing EMU family, the CR400BF-GZ Fuxing intelligent EMU is more resistant to low temperatures, ice and snow and can run as usual in an extremely cold environment of even -40 C.
 
The materials, electrical components and system components used in the EMU - such as the car body, bogie and air supply brake - have all been designed for resistance to low temperatures.

Meanwhile, technical measures have been introduced - in the areas of sealing, snow and impact protection, water system antifreeze and condensation water prevention - so that the EMU has a particularly cold resistance performance.

Additionally, the operations and maintenance levels of the EMU are more intelligent, the facilities are more convenient and the services are more user-friendly. 

For example, the EMU is equipped with barrier-free compartments, wider passage doors, barrier-free toilets and wheelchair storage areas and braille signs for the blind have been added. 

The EMU is also equipped with silent carriages, which provide passengers with a particularly quiet and comfortable riding environment.
