Leading Chinese power equipment producer Harbin Electric Corporation recently announced that the No 4 unit of the Dubai Hassyan 4×600 megawatt clean coal power station – designed and manufactured by the company – passed its reliability run in the debugging phase.
 
With normal system parameters, steady equipment operation, and exceptional quality, a solid foundation has been laid for subsequent units to commence commercial operations.
 
The project has the world's first ultra-supercritical power generation units capable of full load output with both coal and natural gas.
 
As an initiative to "peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality" and in response to the United Arab Emirates' net-zero carbon emission strategy by 2050, the project has since 2022 fully transitioned to using natural gas as a cleaner alternative to coal. With each unit running well, they have provided critical power support to the Expo 2020 Dubai.
 
As the first investment within the Middle East initiated by the Silk Road Fund, the project is a centerpiece of the Belt and Road Initiative.
 
It is a prime example of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) collaborating to serve overseas markets, getting involved in investment, financing, general contracting, design, manufacturing, and construction.
