The 2019 Harbin Roller Skating Marathon, which will take place in the capital of Heilongjiang province on July 21, closed its registration channel on July 9.
Around 7,000 roller skating enthusiasts from 33 countries and regions -- including 36 international professional athletes and 1,264 domestic professional athletes -- will join in the event to test their skills and physical fitness.
Organizers said it is expected that new records will be set for both the numbers of competitors and the size of the event.
Competitors were asked to choose between a full marathon of 42.195 kilometers or events over 24 km, 18 km, 12 km, 6 km and a 3-4km mini-marathon.
A special accolade has been created this year. Participants who break race records will have their names carved inscribed onto the memorial sculpture for the Harbin roller staking marathon.
Harbin was chosen as the host city for the event due to its ideal climate. Located in the high latitude of the Northern Hemisphere, Harbin experiences freezing weather for around six months each year, providing excellent conditions for winter sports such as skating.
