The imposing structure, which links the two banks of the downtown Harbin section of the river, was the first railway bridge in the Songhua River Basin and the first cross-river bridge in the city. Its total length stretches 1,015 meters. The bridge was constructed in 1900 and stopped service in 2014. It was re-opened to the public as a scenic spot in 2016, following a two-year renovation.
