Harbin Yushun Art Museum

The Yushun Culture and Art Research Institute was established by the famous artist Lu Yushun. The institute is registered in Heilongjiang province’s civic affairs department. Under the administration of the provincial culture department, it was the first in Northeast China to be named after an ordinary person.


The institute, covering a floor area of more than 20,000 square meters, was put into operation in 2006. It has a research room, creation center, art museum and training center. The art museum is the largest of its kind in the province with an area of 6,800 square meters. In 2008, it got a new name – Hulan District Art Museum, to help support art organizations and share resources. In 2009, the China National Painting Academy set up a Heilongjiang branch in the museum.In 2012, it held the 2011 National Chinese Painting Exhibition.

Yushun Art Museum is a modern multi-functional art museum located on Meishujia Street, Harbin’s Limin Development Zone.

Financed by Professor Lu Yushun, the famous painter, Yushun Art Museum is a three-story building with its main building designed in the style of an ancient European castle. There are three exhibition halls in a building area of 6,000 square meters. It features 1,000 paintings altogether with 200 vertical movable showcases placed in an exhibition area of 35,000 square meters. Its large sculptures are exhibited in halls No 1 and No 2.

The museum has different functional areas including a collection room, meeting room, painting room and office that perform six main functions, including research, education, communication and service.

A collection of over 1,500 pieces of art are held in the museum. These masterpieces hail from elite artists practicing various styles, ranging from Chinese paintings, oil paintings, engravings to cartoons. Visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate Lu Yanshao’s early works as well as Kang Youwei’s calligraphy in the museum.

In addition, Yushun Art Museum also has activities such as publishing and academic seminars.
