Northeast China's Heilongjiang province has established a provincial international road transport association to promote the construction of an international shipping corridor between the province and Russia, Harbin Daily reported on Tuesday.
The association, which involves the 68 transportation enterprises in the province, was established to promote cooperation with Russian companies, help local transportation companies become stronger competitors and promote industrial alliances.
Bordering Russia, Heilongjiang has frequent economic and cultural exchanges with its neighbor. A huge disparity exists between the two places' freight capacity.
Statistics show that 1.4 million metric tons of imported and exported goods are transported by road each year between Heilongjiang and Russia.
Of those, 90 percent are goods transported from Heilongjiang to Russia, and only 20 percent of those are taken by Chinese companies.
