The Qixi Festival (the Double Seventh Festival or Chinese Valentine’s Day) Love Song Singing Activity, organized by the Old Street Music Festival, the Harbin Blind Date Festival and Harbin TV, will kick off on August 10 in the square of the Flood Control Monument.

Single singers and couples are encouraged to take part in the activity. The organizing commission will divide the single participants into different pairs according to age, hobbies and singing competency. In the activity, music will serve as a bridge of magpies to connect the two. In the traditional Chinese legend, two star-crossed lovers -- the weaver girl and cowherd -- cross a bridge of magpies to meet on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

To date, a total of 76 singles and 26 pairs have signed up. Among the singles, the eldest is 55 years old and the youngest is 28. They are from all walks of life, including teachers, civil servants, white collar workers, nurses and self-employed businesspeople.

The deadline to sign up is August 9. (Telephone: 84689686/ Address: Harbin Youth Palace)

The selection will take place in Harbin Youth Palace, where professionals from the Bona Culture Development and Exchange Center will select and group the participants. An intermediate contest was held onstage at the juncture of Central Street and Youyi Road on August 3 and 4. The final show will be held at the square of the Flood Control Monument on August 10. The finalists also have a chance to get gifts and record singles.
