HARBIN - More than 1,200 oil wells in a crucial oil field have been shut down after floods swept Northeast China, PetroChina Daqing Oilfield said on Thursday.
The oilfield company estimated the floods would cause a production cut of half a million tons of crude oil.
Some wells were closed after being drenched, and some were suspended in fear of possible oil spillage.
More than 100 km of roads in the oilfield were damaged by the floods.
Thousands of workers have been mobilized to drain away water and repair equipment, according to the oilfield company.
Though hit by the floods, the Daqing Oilfield vowed that it would accomplish its target of producing 40 million tons of crude oil this year.
