Lantern Festival is one of the many traditional Spring Festival customs related to eating.
The festival falls on the 15th night of the first lunar month - Feb 14 this year. Families around the country celebrate the day by making yuanxiao in plain, sweet or salty varieties. Yuanxiao is round and made of sticky rice flour filled with sweet or savory stuffing. It symbolizes family unity, completeness and happiness.
Lantern Festival is also called Yuanxiao Festival. Another name for yuanxiao is tangyuan, which literally means "boiled spheres."
