For commuters who have suffered a lot on their way to work, it may be good news that a customized bus service is to be launched in Harbin. The service, designed to meet the passengers' demand for regular routes and but stops, is being offered to city dwellers to provide a greener option than using private cars.

The promise: No crowds, seats provided, nonstop, high speed. After surveying potential passengers for a week, the first two customized buses have begun trial operation in Harbin. There are eight passengers in the customized bus 102, and four in bus 103. Though the number of passengers is small and the customized buses are not yet profitable, the program of customized buses has been launched to gain experience and to pave the way for a better public service.

Harbin’s customized buses are still in their early stages. According to an analysis of passenger flows, Harbin Bus Company has already carried out two customized lines on bus routes 102 and 103.

Each has two new 38-seat buses. The trial operation will last for three months during which voluntary citizens can register for the customized service.
