With 250,000 flowers in full bloom, the flower festival on Harbin’s Sun Island, North China’s Heilongjiang province, kicked off on July 12 and will continue to greet visitors until August 31.

The garden in the Sun Island Scenic Area was rebuilt this year after severe damage caused by last year's flooding; and its original designer was invited to renew the vigor and charm of the garden, based on the world famous Butchart Gardens in Canada.

The new garden currently envelops a total of 9,589 square meters, making it the largest flower base in Northeast China.

Visitors can see 360º panoramas of the garden on their phones, and scan QR codes to access details of the flowers they encounter. There are also interactive games where lucky winners can win summer passes to the park.

Single men and women between the ages of 20 and 25, as well as couples between 25 and 35, can obtain discounts by calling 0451-88190230. Games such as wish-making and “love seed”-planting have been prepared to leave a deep impression on lovers.

The festival was organized around a central theme of “Meeting in Sun Island” and then "Enjoying Flowers Together”. Some of the more popular activities include boat rides, a phone service to simulate the experience, and “Dating on Qixi Festival”,  or traditional Chinese Valentine's Day, which falls on August 2 this year.
