Retired workers and college students joined volunteer teams recently to help cleaning staff clean up cigarette butts on the street and guide residents to avoid inappropriate behavior in public places in an effort to build Harbin into a national civilized city.

Harbin was ranked fourth on the list of China’s Top 10 Cleanest Cities released by the China Institute of City Competitiveness in August.

China’s top 10 cleanest cities in 2014 are Hong Kong, Macao, Gaoxiong, Harbin, Xiamen, Liuzhou, Baoji, Luzhou, Rizhao and Zhangjiajie. The standards for rating are high afforestation coverage, tidy constructions, clean roads and high treatment rate of domestic sewage.

Residents will spare no efforts to make Harbin a beautiful and civilized city to live in.
