From April 10 to 19, the warmhearted people who forwarded a message on WeChat helped to raise a medical fee of 100,000 yuan ($16,000) for a hairdresser’s wife by donating money to his bank account or register a top-up card in his hair salon.

Baby born, wife in danger
Yang Jian from the village of Wuchang, near Harbin studied hairdressing after graduating from middle school and, after several years of working in Beijing, opened a small salon, the "Shangge Fashion Styling" salon, on Jilin St in the Nangang district of Harbin. He married in 2003, and the couple had a son, and this past April 9 was a time of enjoyment for the family because of their new son. But, his wife, Liu Lijuan, got a fever, felt a sharp pain, and began vomit that night.
The next day, she was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and transferred to an ICU and Yang at a complete loss. He had to draw out all his money to pay for the hospitalization, while looking after the newborn baby, and worrying about his wife’s life. Feeling alone and hopeless, he squatted down outside the ICU and prayed for his wife.
Coming up with a solution
Yang was a shy person and didn’t feel much like talking much about his problem. However, Huang Shuo, a good friend, says, “ I saw him go back to the salon, on April 10, and left in a hurry without saying a word to me,”so Huang sensed that something might have gone wrong and began asking around to get to the bottom of it.
He continues, “He’d just bought a small house with a loan last year, and had no savings. As friends, we really needed to do something.”
So, Wang swung into action and gathered several friends to discuss how to help yang get through this and finally, they came up with the idea of putting the critical information of Yang with elaborated photos and description on WeChat and asking sympathetic people to register top-up cards in Yang’s salon and they would collect the money coming into the salon for their friend in the hospital.
To ensure success, Wang put up the address and phone number of the hair salon as well as his WeChat ID and recorded the names of people who had been lending a helping hand.
A life saved
And apprentice at the salon explains, “The salon was quite busy with people who kept coming and going. Some come to register a pre-paid membership card, some come to donate money, and others just left money without a name.”
By April 19, more than 150 people had provided pre-paid cards and more than 50 had put money in their accounts.
With the money coming in, Yang could afford to pay the bills of his wife’s treatment on time, and, miraculously, by April 24, Liu was pronounced out of danger and moved to the general ward at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University.
In speaking with Harbin Daily reporters while holding the hand of his wife gently, beside the bed, Yang concluded, "She married me when I had nothing. We were just starting to be better off, and I will do whatever I can to bring her around"
Then, with tears in eyes, he expressed his thankfulness by noting, "Some people even sent milk powder and diapers for our baby. My gratitude goes far, far beyond words. I thank you all for helping me out!”
