As a traditional celebration for National Day (Oct 1) in cities across China, a symphony concert in the city of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province was put on at the Globe Theatre of Harbin International Exhibition Center & City Stadium on the evening of September 26th, 2014.

This year’s symphony concert has enabled the top contemporary composers in China to perform their latest orchestral works to the public, in particular providing the stage for native Harbin composers to present the city of Harbin through their musical works.

The participation of local groups such as the Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Chorus of the Harbin Opera Theater and Chorus of Harbin Daily, has beefed up the concert with more artistic features of Harbin.

The stage of the symphony concert was unveiled by the orchestral work Picturesque Landscape composed by Yin Qing who was inspired by the greatness of Chinese landscapes.

Festivals, composed by the Harbin composer Yang Renyi, has showcased the city’s hospitality as a renowned summer resort with a performance of Sun Island, a popular song in the 1980s in China. The Happy Snowman, composed by Er’Mao in Polka style, has otherwise presented a fairy tale of Harbin as an “Ice City”. Yang Yibo, another native musician, has shown a modern and fashionable Harbin to the public through his rendition of Dancing Music in Alejin (“Alejin” means honor in Jurchen language, an ancient name for the Acheng area in Harbin).

The performance of Passion for Black Soil and Dream Arises from Black Soil by other famous musicians has shown the strong emotions of people towards the land that gave birth to civilization in northern China.

The symphony concert has presented a birthday gift to the motherland, that the Northeast of China has developed with its own distinctive features from Chinese traditional culture in cultivating innovative Chinese musicians, who could constantly contribute to the creation and development in the field of arts and culture.
