The city of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, introduced some activities on Sept 12 to help its senior citizens celebrate the upcoming Double 9, or Chongyang Festival, China’s first official festival for the elderly, on Oct 2 this year.

To support the initiative, supermarkets, rice stores, barbershops, local hospitals and charging outlets began providing free door-to-door service for the elderly in many communities and there were volunteers paying visits to nursing houses and empty nesters.

There will also be some cultural activities to enrich their lives, in late September.
