The city of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, made the list of 2014 Most Beautiful Cities in China for tourism at the second Tourism Integration and Innovation Forum in Beijing, Harbin Daily reported on Sept 13.
After recommendation from local officials, the beautiful cities were selected from expert tourism reviews, votes from Internet users and comprehensive media rankings.
According to Qin Xiaoyan, head of the marketing department of the tourism administration of Harbin, the favorable geographical location, unique biological resources and huge investment potential helped the city stand out from other tourism cities.
From January to June, Harbin reached gross income in tourism of 37.4 billion yuan ($6 billion), a year-on-year growth of 17.3 percent, with a total of 28.66 million tourists.
The beauty of Harbin has long been remembered by travelers.
Part of China’s first group of excellent tourism cities, Harbin has topped the “Best 10 Cities to Visit” and “Best 10 Cities with Festivals” lists. It was even honored as one of the “10 Favorite Cities in China by Global Netizens” with the highest vote.
In 2010, the city was titled the “City of Music” by UNESCO. In July 2014, Harbin made the list of top 60 summer resorts released by the China Tourism Academy and the service center of the China Meteorological Bureau.
