1,356 Harbin officials punished for violating rules in 2014

A total of 1,356 officials in Harbin received punishment for violating rules in 2014, according to a press briefing held by Harbin Municipal Party Commission of Discipline Inspection and the city’s Bureau of Supervision on Jan 29.
According to the municipal discipline inspection department, 333 cases with 361 officials involved were found to have violated a number of Party disciplines, such as using public funds for expensive recreational activities or overseas tours, indiscreet use of public vehicles, and hosting extravagant wedding banquets or funerals.
Among them, 174 received punishment by administrative and Party discipline agencies, representing a year-on-year increase of 152 percent.
About 99 violators in 66 cases, which had made a bad impression on society, were named by the discipline inspection department.
The city’s discipline inspection authorities investigated and handled a total of 1,450 cases last year, seeing a year-on-year increase of 28 percent. Among these, 641 were cases that seriously violated the discipline rules and laws, accounting for 44 percent of the total.
1,356 people were punished by administrative and Party discipline agencies, 98 of whom had been transferred to judicial authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The anti-graft campaign in 2014 prevented and saved economic losses worth 160 million yuan ($26 million).
Officials in 135 cases involving malpractice, inaction or being lazy and sluggish at work were investigated and 43 of them were punished by administrative and Party discipline authorities.
The city had received 4,559 complaints and petitions from local residents. About 97 percent of them were resolved.
