Heilongjiang province will consolidate the electronic toll collection (ETC) system on 63 highways, ensuring more efficient collection than manual operation for vehicles equipped with an ETC sensor.

Drivers do not have to wait in long queues any more, but can now ease their way in and out of highway toll stations without stopping in the neighboring provinces of Jilin, Liaoning, Shanxi and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
　
The province began the construction of the ETC system in September 2009. Three experimental projects, including computer and information centers for charging and billing, have been finished.

According to the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport, while building the 63 new ETC-equipped highways, the existing 617 cash toll highways will be upgraded with the ETC system.

The vehicle management and service system used by Heilongjiang province based on the Beidou navigation satellite system can not only improve traffic efficiency but also the management of highways.
　
At present, some key equipment of the ETC system, such as the driveway controlling system, are undergoing professional testing in Mohe, a county in Heilongjiang province at the northern tip of China.
