The people of Harbin, North China’s Heilongjiang province, are being asked to hand over any remaining fireworks they have to local police stations before March 6, because of the Lantern Festival, the local public security has announced.
The authority also requested fireworks sellers to deliver any unsold products to certain warehouses no later than March 9.
Any people who are found to still be hoarding fireworks will be penalized in accordance with the law and the bureau says it is welcoming any public tip-offs of illegal behavior, such as storing fireworks or transporting fireworks without a license, via the “110” emergency line, and they will be rewarded with a cash payment for their public service.
The local police say they have dealt with 10 illegal warehouses and had confiscated more than 3,000 fireworks and dealt with dozens of law breakers by March 2.
