Work has begun in the city of Wuchang, near Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, on the Wu Chang Ecological Rice Park, a modern agricultural project that combines primary, secondary and tertiary industries and organic rice growing and processing and an industrial chain, using the most advanced R&D technologies.
It will also have a historical and cultural rice museum, the province’s first.
In charge of the 667-hectare project is the Jinfu Grain and Oil Co, which has put 120 million yuan ($19.3 million) into it. The park will contain eight zones for ecological planting, modern agriculture, rice culture experiences, a youth science activity center, and other areas.
The rice culture experience will have a 1000-square-meter hall for showing the history and culture of rice cultivation, while the rice processing area, which is already in operation, allows visitors to get a look at the industrial side with a production line, and the planting zone, which has modern communication facilities and a surveillance system, gives visitors a look at the rice growing process.
Wuchang itself will hold a “Rice Day” in the park later this year, in an attempt to update its tourism and promote ecological tours.
