The city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province joined the list of Top 10 beautiful cities and Top 10 cities for happiness, according to a China Institute of City Competitiveness survey, whose results were announced, on June 23, with Harbin coming in at 8th place for its unique cityscape and scenery in winter, with a score of 90.33 out of 100.

The city also got a 91.57 on the happiness index, putting it in 6th place, with Chengdu right behind. It was the only city in China’s Northeast to make the Top 10 happy cities list.

The rankings were based on a study of 34 areas that include provinces, very large cities, autonomous regions, and special administrative regions, and 358 cities, which were judged for their competitiveness, growth and other areas.

The Institute is a non-government organization, founded in 1998 in Hong Kong, which publishes rankings of provinces, cities and counties based on many attributes, such as scenery and growth potential.
