The city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province attracted 20 Internet-oriented projects worth a total of 1.2 billion yuan ($193.55 million) recently, according to a local news portal my399.com report on Aug 7.

The portal says that they cover telecommunications, e-commerce, medical and healthcare, with the largest involving smart city construction at a cost of 500 million yuan, with a 4G-network base station for China’s “Big Three” telecoms operators -- China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom who want to expand their 4G coverage.

A Sichuan e-commerce company that deals in jeans has a plan to open a Harbin branch with an investment of 30 million yuan, to get a foothold here and then expand farther northeast, with Leng Deyang, a company representative, explaining they will open an offline store in the city’s Songbei district by the end of this year.

Another project for an online healthcare site focuses on chronic disease management and plans to combine medical resources nationwide to help people with illnesses get better treatment and assistance after a physical check-up via mobile device.

These projects are expected to provide more incentives for the city’s entrepreneurs and innovation, local authorities say.
