Database for toxic materials businesses in Harbin city

The city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province has announced that it has registered 723 of its enterprises that deal with flammable and combustible materials on a special database set up by its production safety watchdog, Harbin Daily reports on Aug 27, describing the move as part of its work safety campaign for hazardous chemicals, especially in view of the warehouse blast in Tianjin, on Aug 12.

Li Zhaoqian, the deputy director of China’s Work Safety Administration, brought a team of inspectors from the State Council Work Safety Commission to Harbin to get a report on the progress in the Harbin campaign.

The inspectors did random checks at key industries and in densely populated areas, such as a passenger depot in Nangang district, the Hongbo Shopping Mall in the Daoli district and a delivery company of PetroChina’s local branch and found more than 5,000 potential hazards at 3,071 enterprises and institutions, with 4,570 of them already improved and the remainder being told to rectify the situation in a certain period of time.
