Harbin came in at 8th place, when the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced its air quality report, on Sept 16.

The other places in the Top 10 report are Haikou in Hainan province, Lhasa in Tibet, Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian province, Zhoushan, Taizhou, and Lishui in Zhejiang province, Kunming in Yunnan, and Guiyang in Guizhou.

Statistics show that mean values of PM 2.5 at 81 micrograms per cubic meter for the first eight months of 2013, and 72 for the same 2014 period, and 59 for this year, and mean values of PM 10 at 119 micrograms per cubic meter for the same period of 2013, and 111 for 2014 and 92 for 2015, both of the values declining year by year.

Environmental authorities say the decline is ascribed result of the city’s attempts to control air pollution.
