Police in the city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province recently uncovered at least 2,000 boxes of fireworks from an unlicensed transport vehicle, the public security bureau reports, noting that it was part of a larger effort to remove potential safety hazards, such as fire crackers or explosives for commercial use.
There are harsh penalties on the illegal transportation of hazardous materials and the Harbin police say they will increase checks on roads going into the city, and at rental houses and warehouses by year’s end, a time when the unlicensed transportation of fireworks often takes place.
They are also encouraging people to report any illegal behavior through a hotline at +86-451-8766-1474 and are rewarding anyone whose complaint is verified. Any offender can face fines or criminal prosecution.
