Tourism in NE China growing

The city of Harbin, in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, saw a major increase in tourism during Spring Festival, according to the city’s tourism bureau.
The bureau said that the city had a total of 800 thousand tourists, rising 7.5 percent year-on-year. Its five major tourist sources were Heilongjiang province, nearby Jilin and Liaoning provinces, Heibei province, and Shandong province, with a steady increase in the number from Southeastern Guangdong province. The visitors also accounted for 1.8 billion yuan ($286 million) in tourist income, up 11.3 percent year-on-year.
The hustle and bustle of Harbin Ice and Snow World, a theme park in Harbin, is a major site during the winter season.
The city has become one of the top ten tourist destinations in China, and particularly attracts tourists during the winter season. The International Ice and Snow Festival has become one of the world’s four largest ice and snow festivals.
