The city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province saw its gyms and fitness centers bursting with people after the Chinese New Year, and reporting a 25-percent rise over normal times.

Apparently, during the 7-day holiday, people in the city has consumed an immense amount of food, especially since a big meal is a common feature for most families, but that high-protein, high-fat diet can easily pile on pounds.

Or, as one girl who got a gym membership the first work day after the holiday, a Ms Zhao, put it, “I’m not a slim girl, and I don’t eat much on work days, to keep fit, but I gained 3 kilograms during Spring Festival because I ate so much,” then added that she’s determined to take that weight off as soon as possible. 1.jpg

And she’s not alone, with some people getting an even earlier start, with the manger of a local gym saying, “The fifth day of the holiday, we were getting 200 members,” then adding that they got more than 30 new members daily right after the holiday and had to add classes for yoga and belly dancing, which targets the fat on the abdomen and waist.

Experts say that for those who want to lose weight fast, keeping a safe and healthy diet without getting too hungry is the best approach. Feng Quan, a nutritionist in Harbin, advises people to choose things such as apples, yogurt, tomatoes and black fungus to help burn that fat off.
