The environmental protection bureau of the city of Harbin, Heilongjiang province has announced improvements to its air quality forecast system, which allow it to provide accurate predictions 72 hours in advance and to forecast for the coming 5 - 7 days period.

The bureau has been researching air quality outlook since last August by cooperating with the local meteorology dept and says it will release the forecasts via its official Wechat account, microblog and website.
 
And, the two departments will hold conferences to discuss the scope, level, and duration of pollution, and the main pollutants and their density, in hopes of providing a reference for the government in deciding on the level of air pollution alerts and for emergency response plans.
