Harbin will launch a campaign to crack down on illegal taxi operations from Aug 15 to the end of 2016, according to a meeting called to discuss the industry.

The meeting on Aug 15 called for strict measures to punish illegal taxi services, such as trying to take "yellow label" vehicles – vehicles that do not meet exhaust emission standards – off the road.

The campaign was launched by Harbin public security bureau, communications bureau, market supervision and administration bureau, environmental protection bureau and the Disabled Persons Federation. A special group has been formed to facilitate law enforcement.

Numerous measures have been introduced to aid the campaign, and when illegal taxi operations are discovered, strict sanctions will be applied.

A limit on sanctions will be set for investigated violations.

Informers with information that leads to the discovery of illegal taxi operations can be rewarded with 500 yuan ($75.4). The telephone number for reporting illegal taxi operations is 0451-84612345.
