The 2016 Sun Island Forum was held in Harbin on Aug 20. City leaders including Song Xibin, Kang Hanqing, Jiao Yuanchao, Zhang Xianyou, Zhang Zhenyin, and Qi Yao attended the forum, which was hosted by the Harbin city government and China Economic Weekly.

Leaders from state organizations, along with well-known scholars and entrepreneurs, also attended the meeting.

In this forum, experts attending the meeting discussed how strategies were aiding the revitalization of Northeast China, along with new methods to improve development.

There were also some sub-forums, including a financial forum, a private sector economy forum; as well as a forum on monetizing scientific and technological achievements.

In the sub-forums, experts pushed for an economic transformation, with new technology and supply-side reforms. Experts also called for promoting the revitalization of the area by trying to attract more capital, and through financial innovation.

Meanwhile, some experts advised coaxing financial institutions to invest more in the Northeast area, further promoting Harbin and other cities, along with social and economic development.
