A park commemorating the history and culture of educated youths has recently opened to the public in Harbin, Heilongjiang province.

The park which is located at Dongju Road, Daowai District, is a place for recreation and reminiscence. It is a park with detailed information about the exploits of youths across the country, with extensive historical data.

The park covers an area of 710,000 square meters, and the memorial hall for the youths covers an area of 3,000 square meters.

In the memorial hall, exhibition items on display include labor instruments, clothes, cups and notebooks, all of which were once used by educated youths.

The educated youths, also known as the “zhiqing”, were the young people who - beginning in the 1950s until the end of the Cultural Revolution, willingly or under coercion - left the urban districts of China to live and work in rural areas as part of the "Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement".
