Beijing Linda Group will invest 3 billion yuan ($450 million) to build a foreign language experience center in a college town near Harbin, Heilongjiang province, according to a Sept 4 news briefing.
The huge center, which will span 170,000 square meters, is designed to be a cultural, education and tourist destination that will give visitors an immersive experience of foreign cultures and languages.
Nine “culture zones” will be built, including a Britain zone, Germany zone and Italy zone, complete with thirty giant replicas of famous streets and monuments such as Big Ben and Neuschwanstein Castle and more than 300 physical stores.
Visitors will also be treated to a variety of exotic events, including 60 foreign culture festivals, boat cruises and even Miss Universe and Miss World contests.
However, the center will also serve the more serious purpose of providing young people with cultural education, TV media training and business experience.
To encourage college students to be innovative and start their own businesses, the center plans to organize 18 festivals focusing on TV, technology and lifestyle among other industries. Around 150 cultural and educational projects will be based in the center in total.
Visitors will also be able to practice more than ten languages at the center, though English will remain the “official language”.
Founded in 1987, Beijing Linda Group is a large private company involved in the real estate, tourist culture, and environmental protection industries.
