Harbin recorded one of its busiest ever Mid-Autumn Festivals on Sept 15-17, with the city in Heilongjiang province seeing a surge in air passengers and large year-on-year increases in the number of train travelers.

More than 120,000 passengers passed through Harbin airport during the holiday, according to the city’s airport department, with load rates to and from popular destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Yantai and Seoul reaching 90%.

The city’s rail network was also tested by the number of travelers, as 1.35 million passengers traveled by train during this year’s festival, a 12.8 percent rise compared to 2015, according to Harbin railway department.

The department added 60 extra trains to the timetables during the three-day holiday to alleviate pressure on the transport network, plus 18 extra high-speed trains running between Harbin and Beijing, Shenyang and Yichun.

Nineteen sightseeing bus lines were also added for tourists visiting the mountain ranges in Greater Khingan, Lesser Khingan and Wanda.
