Harbin’s CPI up 1.4 percent year on year in August

Harbin’s Consumer Price Index remained stable in August, with prices up 1.4 percent year on year, according to statistics released by the Harbin investigation team of the National Bureau of Statistics.

The price of consumer goods was 1.4 percent higher than during the same period last year, while the price of services was up 1.3 percent. This is consistent with the nationwide trend, as the China’s CPI was up 1.3 percent in August, according to data from the NBS.

However, prices in Harbin’s education and entertainment, and clothing sectors are growing more quickly, increasing 3.7% and 3.5% year on year respectively.

Consumers’ transport and communications costs have decreased compared to last year, on the other hand, with prices down 0.4 percent year on year.

Pork prices rose slowly in August, while the price of beef and mutton has continued to decrease for two consecutive months since July. Milk and egg prices also fell sharply to their lowest point this year.
