Passenger throughput at Harbin Airport surpassed 10 million as of August 31, a 16 percent increase compared to the same time last year.

Aviation authorities and major airlines have noted an increase in the number of passengers travelling during major festivals and the summer school holiday period.

According to staff at the Harbin airport tickets center, Beijing, Shanghai, South Korea and Japan were popular destinations during Mid-Autumn Festival.

Special discounts and sales deals have helped increase passenger numbers in Harbin. In the lead up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, discounts of up to 90 percent were offered to passengers who bought tickets to Mohe, Heihe and Yichu.

The most popular international destinations out of Harbin are Seoul, Cheju and Busan in South Korea; Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan and Vladivostok, Russia.
