Everybody has heard of agents for movie stars, but have you ever heard of a goose agent?

A man, endeavoring to be a “goose agent” in Binxian county of Harbin, has registered a company selling goose products.

Zhang Renliang, a 25-year-old man in Yuquan village used to operate a small restaurant in the downtown area of Harbin. He was highly knowledgeable about poultry prices since he often purchased food products.

Zhang found that the entire body of a goose can be utilized for various products. A goose can be sold whole or in separate parts. Selling the various parts of the goose, such as the meat, liver, blood and feet can earn a significant profit, especially when selling to high-end restaurants. So he decided to close his small restaurant and go back home to raise geese.

Zhang rented a farm to breed geese with his savings, buying nearly 5,000 goslings. Zhang, together with a friend, completes the entire daily work of the farm, without a single member of staff.

Each day, Zhang and his friend are busy with cleaning and feeding the animals. His farm has now been open a year, and he has gained lots of experience of breeding, although around six months ago, hundreds of geese died due to his lack of breeding experience and equipment.

Thousands of the geese are now adults, but Zhang now worried about finding buyers for his birds.

Zhang started to promote his geese everywhere, at restaurants, food processing factories, and slaughter houses. Fortunately, his hard work has paid off, and a company selling cooked geese decided to buy his animals. The company purchased all his geese, earning him 200,000 yuan ($29,500 ) in total.

"Now I am more certain that I made a good decision to quit my old business and start this new one," Zhang said. He now has larger customers who want to buy his geese in bulk.

Zhang said that he not only wants to make money for himself, but also would like to help enrich local people.

"I will rent a bigger farm to breed goslings, and sell goose feces to local villagers at a low price," he said.

Zhang has also committed himself to providing villagers with free breeding technologies.

When the goslings grow big, Zhang has committed to buy all of them off the villagers at an agreed price and then sell them. As a goose agent, he will provide packaging services for villagers, bearing all the financial risks.
